West, Texas, explosion: At least 3 dead; several firefighters missing

Aboard air force one en route to Boston, President Obama gov. Rick Perry running response and recovery efforts may be needed to assist in any federal resources to offer.

9: 45 am ET: Sgt. William Patrick Swanton, Waco Police spokesman one of missing persons, found that a Constable who is also a firefighter said at a press conference. He is currently hospitalized in "serious injuries."

"We still have 3-4 firefighters are missing," he said. "no police or EMS are missing, as far as I know."

Swanton said that "some number" of fatalities remains 5-15, but it's still a guess at.

Swanton also stated that an important sector of the fertilizer plant was destroyed, and that homes five blocks away so far.

"Houses have been destroyed. the community ran," he said.

A small amount of looting was reported in the area of Swanton said. There are some unknown people in the area.

"I have been looters or whether they are;. A key concern for us that can't tell caught up, "he said.

Officials now are a more systematic search under beds, in closets-— and are still in the rescue mode, and not yet in recovery mode.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire, Swanton said.
